The show follows three talented young Black women from back alley performances to stardom. Through their newfound fame, they are forced to confront love, betrayal, and contrasting ambitions, all pulling at the threads of their unity. With soulful music and a storyline full of dynamic and beautifully human characters, Dreamgirls celebrates the Motown music scene while also diving into its clash with White America’s attempt to squash and steal from it.

Excellence in The Community and Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation presents Samuel Lu in concert. Samuel is a Steinway Young Artist and prize winner of numerous piano competitions, both national and international. He served as a Student Juror of the 2024 Gina Bachauer International Artists Competition. His program includes music of Bach, Beethoven, and Ravel.
Samuel Lu is an American pianist born and based in Salt Lake City, Utah. He began piano at three under the tutelage of his parents, both piano professors at the University of Utah.
Samuel’s concertizing experience began rather early: in 2019, he gave a solo recital in Hong Kong at the closing ceremony of the first Helen Taylor International Piano Competition held abroad. Samuel has achieved numerous successes in piano: he was the first prize winner of the 2022 MTNA National Weekely and Arganbright Piano Duet Competition, and the First Prize at the 2023 Endor International Music Competition. In 2024, he was an MTNA Senior Solo National Finalist and National YoungArts Winner in the Classical Music: Piano category. In addition, he received the Best Scriabin Prize at the 2024 Spotlight International Piano Competition for his interpretation of Scriabin Sonata Op. 53, No. 5 in F-sharp Major.
In 2025, Samuel Lu was a second-time recipient of the National YoungArts Award in Classical Music: Piano. He was also recognized and a distinguished Steinway Young Artist in 2025. His orchestral debut was with the Salt Lake Symphony and Chorale, playing Mozart Concerto in F Major, K449. He would also later play Tchaikovsky Concerrto No. 1 in B-flat Major.
Besides Performing in large halls, he enjoys giving small concerts within his community or friends and family at their homes. Samuel continues to challenge himself by seeking out eclectic, perversive repertoire from all periods and styles and seeks to expand his music style.
